Join us for a 'Whisky Tasting – Version 2' on the evening of March 30th, 2018, at Chopard Boutique from 6pm - 8pm.

Come delight the flavors of Scotland's legendary drink, and enjoy an introductory presentation and a whisky sampling entitled, 'Unusual Whisky Finishes' by Dr. Craig Shipp, a Scotch whisky enthusiast and member of SUT. In this tasting we’ll explore the tastes of less common cast finishes (e.g., port, rum, various wines, etc.) beyond the more typical aging of whisky in previous bourbon and sherry casts.

There are limited tasting seats available for this event, so registration in advance is required.

Non-Members - $60.

About Dr. Craig Shipp

Craig Shipp joined the Shell Development Company in Houston as a research geologist in 1988, after completing a M.S. in Coastal Geology at the University of South Carolina, followed by a Ph.D. in Geological Oceanography from the University of Maine.

For most of his energy industry career, he has concentrated on the development and support of the current evaluation group that specializes in the assessment of geohazards for offshore drilling and field developments globally for the company. In 2013, he was named Principal Technical Expert in recognition for his long-term efforts in the discipline within Shell. For the last few years, Craig has focused on understanding and addressing the diverse issues, associated with onshore geohazards, both in conventional and unconventional settings.

In professionally related activities, he founded and convened the Operators’ Geohazards Forum (2003-2009), has been an American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Distinguished Lecturer (2006-2007), was a member of the Expert Panel on Gas Hydrates for the Canadian Council of Academies (2007-2008), and chaired the Houston Offshore Site Investigation and Geotechnics (OSIG) Committee of the Society for Underwater Technology (2010-2011), and has just finished serving as the Technical Program Chairman for the 100th Anniversary AAPG Annual Conference and Exhibition that occurred earlier this year in Houston (2014-2017).

Presently, Craig serves on the Environmental Protection and Safety Panel for the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (2003-present), and is a member of the U.S. Dept. of Energy Methane Hydrate Advisory Committee (2008-present). 

His current technical pursuits are the contrast in geohazards issues between siliciclastic and carbonate deepwater systems, geotechnical character of deposits formed by deepwater processes, and the effect of mass-failed sediments and marine gas hydrates on deepwater drilling and development operations still gets him up in the morning!
