Based on the recognition of the need to remove carbon at a faster pace than anticipated in the 5th IPCC report, geologic carbon sequestration is considered one of the most achievable initiatives. The experiences accumulated by the oil and gas industry in characterizing subsurface strata and fluid behavior in buried rock formations provide a unique advantage for the scalability of geologic carbon storage. In this presentation, the author builds on the current practices in marine site characterization for drilling and development and provides recommendations for the adoption and configuration of these practices for offshore geologic carbon storage.
Yosmel Sanchez

Yosmel joined Fugro in 2014 where he holds the position of Technical Advisor. Mr. Sanchez has more than 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry including drilling operations, production, well completion, and geohazard assessments for drilling and development. His current professional interest is related to advance marine site characterization for offshore wind farms and geologic carbon storage. Mr. Sanchez received his engineering degree and specialist degree in well drilling and hydrocarbon production from the University of Havana in 2002 and 2005, respectively. Yosmel holds a Ph.D. in Geosciences from Florida International University, Miami, USA.
