45 years of experience
I am Ed Clukey and am semi-retired. I received my education at WPI (BS, MS) and Cornell University (PhD.). In my career I have worked for government agencies (USGS), consultants (HNTB, McClelland Engineers, U.S. Geological Survey) and two major energy companies (Exxon and BP). After my retirement from BP I started my own company (GeoMaxEd). I am a member of ASCE and SUT and have led the API/ISO efforts to update recommended practice for geotechnical aspects of risers and flowlines.
The best advice I’ve received…
I am willing to mentor 2 students or young professionals once a month during weekdays or weekends, remotely or in person. However, the frequency and length of mentoring sessions will be an agreement between Mentor and Mentee.

Originally, I grew up in New England, but have lived in Texas for the past 35 years. My career has allowed me to travel to many parts of the world.
The focus of my work has been on offshore geotechnics including foundations for deepwater floating facilities, risk assessments for geohazards like offshore slumping and earthquakes, the impact of soil conditions on fatigue related issues and wave-seafloor interaction. I have championed and helped extend the use of centrifuge model testing to verify offshore geotechnical designs. Since my retirement I have done some consulting and have lectured at Texas A&M, Cornell and MIT. I am interested in extending my experience to the offshore wind industry. My experiences have been very rewarding, and I would like to share these with young students interested in pursuing careers in offshore technologies.
Something about me:
"I enjoy golf, reading, music, comedy, working in the yard, travelling, chasing my grandson, and continuing to work in my field."
The best advice I’ve received…
"Never give up and be prepared to take advantage of opportunities that come your way. Ttey and laugh every day."
