During the fall quarterly meeting of 2020 of the Society for Underwater Technology in the U.S. (SUT-US), its Executive Committee undertook its election process to democratically vote for the next Officer to lead the Branch. The results of the election process favored Tricia Hill, Marine and Offshore Sales Director in the US for Fiberglass Systems at NOV, becoming the next SUT-US’ Chair and President, and first Women to lead the Branch.
This was a natural progression from the exceptional leadership Mrs. Hill has shown since her arrival to SUT-US seven years ago. Mrs. Hill has been an active member in SUT-US since 2015, taking part in various committees and initiatives such as chairing the Subsea Engineering and Operations (SEO) Committee, creating and organizing the Drilling 101 Course, establish the SUT-US’s Mentoring Program, Online Engineering Competition Program, the Women in Industry (WIND) Taskforce, and volunteering to support the School Touring Program.

Dr. Zenon Medina-Cetina, former SUT-US President and Chair, nominated Mrs. Hill for SUT Fellow in 2019 where she was voted unanimously by the SUT Council for her exemplary role as a volunteer ‘to advance education in underwater technology’. This is the highest recognition for distinguished members who present outstanding dedication and commitment to this professional society.

As the newly-elected SUT-US Chair, Mrs. Hill plans to leverage this society internationally. “The UK & Europe are more advanced in the marine renewable energy developments, and I believe that the SUT organization, head quartered in London, UK, can be the bridge to help advance the US offshore wind industry.” Mrs. Hill explained “my vision is to position SUT-US as an organization that can help the United States to develop marine renewable energy technologies and best practices, I can see that we will be able to accomplish this by weaving our SUT UK connection and oil & gas experience into the marine energy developments benefiting government bodies, industry, and academia.”

Mrs. Hill’s professional achievements include over 20 years of experience in design, manufacture and installation of flexible pipe, project management and engineering, business development and sales, the offshore energy industry, subsea engineering, topside systems and offshore drilling.
